A beautiful antique English 9k rose gold back & front locket* (C. 1880-1900); covered with hand engraving on the back & front and a blank shield-shaped cartouche (these were often engraved with initials, but this one is still blank), opening to reveal space for two photos & all the original fittings.

This locket is in very good condition for its age, these tiny lockets were often worn as everyday charms and suffered scratches, dings & dents as a result, because of the blank cartouche and lack of wear I would guess this locket was never actually worn.

14mm wide by 19.5mm tall, not including top loop/bail.

*both the front and the back panels of this locket are solid 9k gold, the inner frame is brass or gold metal. Antique lockets were often made in this manner for strength and durability.
